Frequently Asked Questions
About ProjectLeo
-
ProjectLeo is an AI-powered patient advocacy platform. Leo, our AI, helps you understand your health, prepare for appointments, navigate insurance, and get the care you deserve. Your doctor works for the hospital. Leo works for you.
-
Anyone who has ever felt confused, dismissed, or overwhelmed by the healthcare system. We built Leo especially for people who face the biggest barriers: communities of color, immigrants, people with disabilities, and anyone managing a chronic condition.
-
No. Leo is your advocate and navigator, not your clinician. Leo helps you understand your health information, prepare questions, and know your rights. For medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, always talk to a qualified healthcare provider.
-
Leo helps you understand medical records and test results in plain language, prepare for doctor's appointments, navigate insurance appeals, track medications and appointments, and coordinate care across multiple providers.
-
Yes. We’re on the App Store. Download ProjectLeo today →
-
New users get a 14-day free trial of Pro. After that, you can choose a plan that fits your needs. People receiving government assistance qualify for free access.
-
No. Leo has no financial relationship with any hospital, insurer, pharmaceutical company, or provider network. Leo's only job is to advocate for you. We don't accept payments, referral fees, or sponsorships that would influence what Leo recommends.
Privacy & Security
-
You do. Always. ProjectLeo never sells your data, shares it with advertisers, or uses it to benefit insurers or hospitals. You control what you share, and you can delete your data at any time.
-
Yes. We voluntarily meet enterprise-level security standards to protect your information. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We conduct regular security audits and test our AI for bias on an ongoing basis.
-
Leo accesses only what you choose to share. If you connect your health records, you control that connection. You can remove access at any time.
-
No. We don't share your information with any provider, insurer, employer, or third party without your explicit consent.
-
ProjectLeo operates as a personal health record platform. You choose to share your own records with Leo, which means the relationship is between you and your data. We've designed the platform with strong privacy protections that reflect our patient-first values, and we hold ourselves to rigorous security standards.
-
Leo uses the information you provide to give you relevant, personalized guidance. We don't use your personal health data to train our AI models for other users. Our AI recommendations are explainable, not black-box.
-
Yes. You can request full deletion of your account and all associated data at any time from within the app or by contacting our support team.
-
We regularly audit Leo for bias and make that accountability public. Our founder is a Certified Diversity Professional, and equity is built into how we design, test, and update the platform.
-
Only you. ProjectLeo employees do not access your personal health records except in limited cases — like investigating a reported technical issue — and only with your knowledge. We never give third parties access to your records without your explicit consent.
-
Your data is stored on secure servers in the United States. We use industry-standard encryption to protect it in transit and at rest. We do not store your data on third-party advertising platforms or share it across unrelated services.
AI, Transparency & Accountability
-
Leo uses AI trained on evidence-based medical knowledge to provide guidance based on what you share. It does not guess, assume, or fill in gaps without telling you. When Leo is uncertain, it says so and points you toward a provider. We do not use black-box algorithms — our recommendations are designed to be explainable.
-
Leo is designed to inform and advocate, not to diagnose or prescribe. We work hard to keep our AI accurate and up to date, but no tool is perfect. Always verify health information with a qualified healthcare provider before making medical decisions. If you believe Leo gave you harmful or inaccurate information, report it to us directly at support@projectleo.ai. We investigate every report.
-
No. Leo provides information, context, and guidance. Every decision about your health stays with you. Leo's role is to make sure you have what you need to make informed choices — not to make those choices for you.
-
That's your right. You are always free to ignore Leo's guidance, seek a second opinion, or make a different choice. Leo is a tool, not an authority.
Using the App
-
Leo is built for multilingual users with cultural context, not just translation. We're expanding language support continuously.
-
No. You can use Leo without connecting any records. The more context you share, the more personalized Leo's support can be, but you're always in control of what that looks like.
-
ProjectLeo is intended for users 18 and older. If you're a caregiver managing health information on behalf of a child, you may use the platform in that capacity. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you believe a minor's data has been submitted, contact us immediately at security@projectleo.ai.
-
No. Leo can help you find mental health resources, understand your options, and prepare for appointments — but Leo is not a therapist and is not a substitute for mental health care. If you're in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or go to your nearest emergency room.
-
If something you share suggests you may be in immediate danger — from illness, injury, abuse, or self-harm — Leo will direct you to emergency services or crisis resources. Leo cannot call for help on your behalf.
Healthcare Access Program (HAP)
If you're receiving government assistance — Medicaid, SNAP, SSI, or similar programs — you may qualify for free or reduced-cost access to ProjectLeo through the Healthcare Access Program (HAP).
-
People currently enrolled in Medicaid, SNAP, SSI, or other qualifying federal or state assistance programs.
-
Full access to ProjectLeo Pro features, including Insurance Appeals, Past Visits & Appointments, and My Health Documents — at no cost or significantly reduced cost, verified on a case-by-case basis.
-
Download the ProjectLeo app and create an account.
During sign-up, you will be prompted to enroll in the HAP at the pricing page.
If you’re already a member, Go to Plans & Billing and select "Apply for Healthcare Access Program."
Submit a form of verification. If manual verification is needed, that will happen typically within 2–3 business days.
Once approved, access is activated on your account automatically.
-
Yes. Information submitted for HAP verification is used only to confirm eligibility. It is not shared with any third party, insurer, or government agency.

Accessibility Statement
ProjectLeo is for everyone. That means the app must work for everyone too.
We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These are the standards most healthcare and government sites are measured against.
We meet or exceed them.
-
Keyboard navigation
Every feature on the ProjectLeo website and app is accessible by keyboard. You can tab through menus, forms, and buttons without touching a mouse. There are visible focus indicators throughout.
Screen reader support
All images have descriptive alt text. All form fields have visible labels that are properly linked to their inputs. Error messages are specific and appear near the field that needs attention. The page structure uses proper heading levels so screen readers can navigate logically.
Color contrast
Text and background color combinations meet WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratios: 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text. We don't use color alone to communicate meaning.
Captions and transcripts
All videos have captions. Transcripts are available. Audio alerts have visual counterparts.
Text resizing
You can zoom to 200% without the layout breaking. Body text is a minimum of 16px. Line spacing is 1.5 or higher for body copy.
Touch targets
All buttons and interactive elements are at least 44x44 pixels. Clickable items have enough space between them to avoid accidental taps.
Plain language
We write at an 8th-grade reading level or below. Medical terms get defined right away. We avoid jargon.
-
Leo supports multiple languages. Voice mode includes real-time translation.
If you need help in a specific language, email us at accessibility@projectleo.ai. We'll do our best to assist you.
-
If something on our site or app doesn't work for you, we want to know.
Email: accessibility@projectleo.ai
We respond within 3 business days. If the issue affects your ability to use a core feature, we prioritize a fix.
Accessibility is never finished. If something is hard to use, that's a bug. Tell us.
Connecting Your Health Records
ProjectLeo uses Fasten Health to connect your health records from thousands of providers, hospitals, and labs — securely and with your full control.
-
Through Fasten Health, you can pull in allergies, medications, conditions, immunizations, lab results, vital signs, and past visits from your providers' EHR systems.
-
In the app, go to Managing My Health → Health Records and follow the prompts to connect your provider portal through Fasten Health.
-
You authorize each connection yourself. ProjectLeo only accesses records you choose to share, and you can remove a connection at any time from within the app.
-
Fasten Health connects to thousands of provider portals. To check whether your specific provider is supported, visit Fasten Health's provider directory.
-
Connections auto-sync every 24 hours. If your records aren't updating, try removing and re-adding the connection in Managing My Health → Health Records. If the issue continues, contact us at support@projectleo.ai.
Trust & Legal
Your data belongs to you.
Full stop.
We know that for many of the communities ProjectLeo was built to serve — people of color, immigrants, LGBTQ+ patients, people with disabilities — trust in health systems has been earned the hard way, if at all.
So we're going to be specific.
What ProjectLeo collects
Health information you choose to share (records, medications, conditions, documents)
Information you enter directly into the app (symptoms, notes, appointment details)
Basic account information (name, email, plan status)
App usage data to improve performance and fix bugs
What ProjectLeo does not do
We do not sell your data. Not to pharmaceutical companies, advertisers, insurers, or anyone else.
We do not share your records with your doctor, hospital, or employer without your explicit consent.
We do not use your personal health data to train AI models for other users.
We do not let third-party advertising platforms access your information.
-
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, stored on secure servers in the United States, and protected by industry-standard security architecture. We conduct regular security audits and also maintain a Leo Safety Dashboard to monitor AI outputs for accuracy, bias, and safety.
-
You decide what records to connect and can remove access at any time.
You can request a full export of your data.
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time — from within the app or by emailing support@projectleo.ai.
You can view a log of who has accessed your information under Connected & Secure → Privacy & Settings → Accounting of Disclosures.
-
Leo's recommendations are designed to be explainable, not black-box. Our founder is a Certified Diversity Professional (CDP®), and we test Leo regularly for bias across race, language, gender, and socioeconomic status. Accountability isn't a policy we wrote once — it's an ongoing practice.
-
If you believe your data has been mishandled, or if you want to report a privacy or security concern, go to Connected & Secure → Report an Issue in the app, or email support@projectleo.ai directly.
